Carrying a bottle of water or any other drink through security at Schiphol Airport will no longer be allowed. This change, which also applies to Eindhoven Airport and Rotterdam The Hague Airport, has been announced by the Royal Schiphol Group, which operates these airports.
These new rules will take effect starting September 1. The adjustment in policy is in response to new European regulations. The airports clarify that the rule change is not due to an increased threat level.
For years, travelers had to dispose of or empty their bottles before passing through security. However, a few years ago, the airports introduced new scanning equipment that allowed liquids to be carried through without issue.
In September, Amsterdam, Eindhoven, and Rotterdam airports will revert to the previous rules. Travelers can still bring bottles, but they must be empty when going through security. Bottles can be refilled after passing through the checkpoint.
To ensure travelers are aware of this change, the airports will deploy additional staff and use various methods to inform passengers about the new rules.
